JR attends CNY 2012 Reunion Lunch @ Sentosa

We went to RWS Singapore Seafood Republic for Reunion Lunch @ Sentosa.
It was a good meal and the service was excellent!
Well except JR's behavior as he refused to try the good food there (What a waste!)
After the lunch we had to rush back for his music lesson so we didn't get to tour around.

We just had the 1st lesson at Yamaha Junior Course.
Not bad, the teacher can teach and is good with kids.
Well I guess professionals are professional hehe, if you ask me I can't teach kids.
Anyway the teacher did try to intro the concept of articulation rhythm etc. which are part of the basics of music other the important key.

In the class I think only JR is the one who have watched the DVD haha.
Anyway he like to sing and sang loudly, more importantly his pitch is dead on and not off key.
Well I guess that's part of my musical genes in him. :)
Well I didn't take a lot of pics just one.

Well not much special outings and photo taking just some updates.
The playground downstairs has been upgraded (or downgraded ....) and JR played in both of them
IMO the old design was much better as the new playground only has a slide.
And in order to use that slide, JR has to climb over a bridge which he dare not so well he didn't managed to use that slide...
Need to encourage him to cross over that bridge.
There is a workaround though, JR manage to climb up the slide instead and slide down via it too.

We went to a hotel to attend a wedding too.
JR is so cute, he pick up the bride's bouquet left on the table and gave it to the bride. :)

JR Visits Zoo (2011)

We went to the zoo.
This time round we didn't walk too far and took the tram ride.
So not much pics this time round.
Nonetheless it was enjoyable as we didnt have to walk too much :)

It was very hot but we didn't stay too long there.

If you wonder why there's a break in the blog...
Well JR broke our only digicam, it was quite sometime before we purchase the replacement digicam.
We bought a FujiFilm EXR 550 in the end, and the results was very good.

JR visits Bintan

We went to Bintan island during the CNY holiday break.
Well it's a boring place...
The boat ride was 1.5 hr in the forward trip and return trip was shorter about 45 min.

The Tanah Merah ferry was quite backward, especially at the plank which we boarded the ferry...
It was swaying here and there, I was afraid that I might fall into the sea.
I was carrying JR with me...

During the boat ride it was very nauseous, because of the stormy sea.
We were sitting right in front of the food counter in the boat.
I am surprised many people actually bought and ate food even in such a rocky ride...
Of course soon after I see them retching out what they just ate.
The only way curb the seasickness is to sit straight and straighten the head.
And make sure the head is supported (leaning back on the head rest)
JR sat with me and I supported his head.
Though he was uncomfortable, he did not retch at all :)

Upon arriving, we were surprised that the plank to alight the ferry was far more stable than in Singapore.
Naturally we alighted easily.
we waited for the transport (bus) that fetched us from the ferry to the hotel resort.
After arriving at the resort, we were greeted warmly by the hotel staff.
They are also celebrating CNY with lion dance fanfare etc.
Well that's an surprise.
We were allocated and ferried to the villa in a golf buggy.

After checking into the villa we began to relax.
Well other than relaxing, there isn't really much to do.
The food will be nice if we eat at the main seafood center, but we didn't so we settled the meals mainly at the local food court.
Next few days we spend the days relaxing visiting the beaches etc.
Funny thing is they are charging in SGD and with GST.
I thought GST isn't applicable here since we aren't even in SG land.
The operator of the hotels are probably SG ppl but even then charging GST?

Finally at after two days we checked out and took the ferry home.
If the main aim is for relaxing it's really a nice place.
But for me it's just too boring...

It's been a long time since the last update.
Time to catch up abit.

JR visited the Science Center at Jurong East.
Well there is nothing much there to see...
Most of the exhibit are under repair.
Nonetheless JR seems to enjoy himself though.

JR had a fracture

Poor JR had a bad fall while pushing the pram because of the loose sandals that he wore.
We brought him to see the 24 hours clinic and the doc had an X-ray done.
But the doc also couldn't tell if it's fracture or not.
Well he make an guess that it's likely to be a sprained.
We went home after that.

The next morning we brought him to see the TCM doc.
Upon seeing that bruised right elbow, he suspected that it is fractured.
So he never did anything and ask us to see the specialist.

Then I made several calls to the clinic but they say will get back to me... which they never did.
Finally my wife manage to get hold of them, and they said after the radiologist examine the X-ray that it could well be an fracture.
So they made an appointment with the orthopedic specialist clinic.

The orthopedic specialist doc also had another X-ray done but no deduction.
He explained that a kid's bone is quite hard to deduce whether is there any hairline fracture.
He said to be on the safe side he recommend a splint and bandage.
After 1 weeks + he examine and say that JR should be OK.
There wasn't any misalignment and even if there is fracture it should have healed.
The doctor was very good and thru' playing with JR he manage to test JR's elbow to see if there is any problem or not.

JR visits Bangkok
We had the chance to visit the Bangkok.
But unfortunately on the 2nd day of arriving there, the famous Red shirt occupy the shopping district...
So we didn't have any chance to do any shopping.
But the weather there was very hot; the sweltering heat make JR very uncomfortable.
Our visit to Chatuchak had to end early w/o any purchase.
We had a good lunch at Yaowarat Chinatown though.
After that we had to spent the rest of the day in the service apartment as the Red shirt camped in the nearby BTR station... sigh... what a trip.
Luckily for us we managed to come home safely.

Happy 2nd Birthday JR!!!

We celebrated JR's 2nd birthday on the 10 May.
Coincidentally, it always fall on the Mother's day region so getting a cake was definitely a problem.
The price would have surged up for the Mother's day...
Unfortunately, this is necessary to sustain business.

Expo Baby Fair
We went to the baby at the Expo, which was a disappointment.
Unfortunately NATAS fair was on at the same time... causing massive jams.
The parking was a big problem; they engaged so many Auxillary police there but they just weren't doing enough to alleviate the traffic flow.
Within the fair nothing much to see, except JR gets to kick the OCBC cardboard wall which was fun for him.

Zoo Jan09

Brought RR to zoo on 2nd day of CNY, a very hot and crowded afternoon. RR was very happy to run around. He cried when we move from one animal to another, not because he miss the animal but rather he want to walk up and down the slopes. Zoom in on the DVD/VCD rather than the toys in the shop near Kids splash park. He hit me on the face and when I grimace, he laughed heartily so we laughed together for a good five minutes. The only animal he is interested in is the miniature horse, maybe because he can see it real close up front unlike the other animals who are all behind glass wall or too far off for him to foucs.

This is JR second CNY, brought him to Orchird Country Club for reunion lunch, he was scared of the lion dance but once he finish lunch, he is happy and run around the restaurant which only has a few tables occupied. We visited relatives house and he cry mostly except when he is free to roam and run about or watch TV , then he is happy.

Went to Jurong Birdpark on New Year. RR doesnt like sitting in the Pram, happiest coming down to walk. It rain shortly after , took out the cover for pram and put it on, RR was so short tempered. Perhaps it was very warm under the cover.

Celebrated Christmas Day in Ritz Carlton. after dinner on 24 Dec, JR promptly threw up all his porridge in hotel room, end up we have to clean RR + plus pram + room. RR in cranky mood after that, daddy has to go home to get his medication + DVD. After medication and with his DVD , RR feels better . However , he didnt sleep until 1.30am, we were dog tired next morning. RR didnt get to swim in the pool after all. Although service at the hotel is good, didnt really like layout of the room, can hear people walking and talking when they walk past our room. A wasted trip, should have stay at home after all.

Brought baby to Zoo on 18 Dec, the weather is good surprising given that it has been raining past few days. Rong Rong is happiest coming down to walk, asserting his independence. He will not hesitate to show you his piece of mind when he does not get things done his way. It was a tiring and eventful trip for us.

A beeming RR in Sentosa amid a gloomy weather, it rained throughout our day there. except when we made him put on a swimsuit, he started to cry.
He doesn't like the pool nor the bathtub.
Happiest in the arcade running around or kicking some fruits in the hotel room or tearing up some tissue.
Doesn't like the playpen either for sleeping and end up in the bed with us, sweat throughout the night 'cos the aircon isn't cold enough.
An angel at breakfast (smiling) and a devil during dinner (he upset his porridge and spill it all around the floor, have to get the waiter to clean the floor).

JR Goes to Sentosa and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

A visit to Sentosa
We planned a trip to Sentosa on a Sunday afternoon.
It was a hot afternoon.
I got the corporate card from my company but discovered that it was practically useless.
When we drove in by the car, we still need to pay the $2 entrance fee...
There were no free entrance by using the corporate card.
I wonder what good is the corporate card.

Anyway we went to the Imbiah look out where the Merlion is.
The road on Sentosa was very narrow, and when the bus passed by extra caution has to be taken.
We reached the carpark, and luckily we found a shaded carpark lot.
(Minutes later the carpark was filled. Luckily we arrived early.)
We brought JR to the look out area which was hot...
Luckily we brought the fan along but forgot to bring new batteries.
The fan did not last too long and we had to resort to manual fanning.
Anyway when it became too hot we decided to go home.
JR didnt like it at all due to the sweltering heat.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
On the way back we brought JR to the Bukit Timah reserve.
Unfortunately JR was bitten by mosquitoes.
He seems to be a insect magnet as all the insect will be attracted to him.
Well, at least we exposed him to the great Mother Nature.
We didn't stay long and headed home after that.

Happy Birthday JR!

Times really flies, it has been a tiring but fruitful year for our family.
We are happpy to celebrate JR's 1st birthday.
Of course we had unhappy moment for the past year but the rewards/joy of having JR are certainly unmeasureable.

To prepare for the big day, we bought new toys and new clothes for JR to wear on his big day.
As for the cake, unfortunately, JR's birthday was close to the Mother's day which is an excuse for all the cake retailers to hike the price of the cake.
We had to purchase a pandan kaya cake at about 10% to 15% more.
(You can certainly trust those retailers to add to the already exhoritant inflation.)

Pre-celebration
Grandpa and Grandma are quite popular with the people in the neighbourhood.
So they had a pre-celebration at the every morning gathering for JR.

JR is sick again...

He developed a gastric flu probably infected by other kids.
JR had fever so we pasted those cooling forehead strips but he detest very much.
We can only paste it when he is asleep.
During the sickness, JR slept alot and drank very little...
If he drank too much he will vomit out the milk, so we had to reduce the amount.
Well his weight drop to below 9kg.
Poor JR.

We seek 2 GP consultation and 1 ped consultation.
The GP's medication was too mild for JR and it didn't help and after seeing the ped, he advise us to reduce the milk to only 5 ouce max plus the following medication.
- Paracetemol for fever
- Polamire Syrup for flu

After recovering from the flu, JR caught a cough again and it developed into brochitis.
After seeing the ped, the following medication was prescribed for the nebulizer treatment:
- Pulmicort 1 ml
- Ventolin .3 ml
- Atrovent .5 ml
- Saline .2 ml
We bought the nebulizer machine in case we need it again.
Also the ped warn us about taking flu medication for baby.
Most flu medication are not really safe for baby so avoid if possible.

Well this time we had difficulty administering the treatment to JR.
He was getting more powerful in his kicks.
We needed 3 person to hold him down to administer the treatment.
And he cried so badly throughout the treatment

When we return after 3-4 days for reconsultation, the ped stop the nebu treatment and resume the oral medication.
- Liquid ventolin syrup 2ml
- Rhinathiol Cough medication 2ml
- Singulair tablet/powder

It's been quite a while since I update the blog so it high time I published an update.
So I backdated the events for Apr.

We brought JR to the Zoo for the Good Friday holiday weekend.
Mummy had obtained a Zoo pass from her company.
I think we (mummy and daddy - that's me) are more excited than JR about the whole trip.
Morning was a fine weather so we had woken earlier than normal to get prepared.
Finally we set up about mid morning and reached there in a short ride.
(Well I took a wrong turn thanks to the stupid street directory, what meant to be a short cut turns out to be a long way instead.)

When we reached there we were surprised at the number of people turning up at the zoo.
There were long queue's of car parking alongside the road.
Luckily we were able to find a lot in the proper carpark and enter the zoo without any trouble.

JR arrived at the zoo entrance, sleeping (soundly) amid the clamour.

We had late breakfast and early lunch at the entrance area.
I think we were more excited than JR about the zoo as it reminds me of my good old days of visiting the zoo.
(The last vist for me was in Secondary School times - Junior High School days).

The first animal we saw was a monkey in the tree at the zoo entrance.
I roam freely in the tree at the entrance area.
Unfortunately I am unable to get full frontal shot of the creature.

We had a photo with "Mr Seal" before we proceed on the iternary.
The track we took is mainly on the left outer edges all the way till the animal show arena.

We passed the parrot stand and took a picture of JR with his aunt.

Then I took a picture of mummy and JR at the hanging bridge area.
There were some animals there but werent that interesting.

Then we came to our 1st desired destination: White Tigers.

There was a huge crowd at the white tigers' ring.
There were 3 tigers: one more dominant than the other 2.
He (probably a male) snatch the big stone sphere and barred the other 2 from playing it.
After a while the trio took a dip in the pond.
I was lucky to caught the swim on video.
(If I figure out how to upload video I will do so.)

Then we proceed on the iternary and came to the water horse display.
There were some kind of funny prehistoric existing fish on display.

All the hippo do was to show us it's backside...

Continuing the journey, we arrived at the wild outback: an enclosure for the Aussie animal.
The kangeroos were free to roam around and I was very surprised when a few of them jump across our pathway, over the knee height fence very effortlessly...
Of course there were other animals like the emu around.

After visit we took a rest at a resting area.
There were a stall selling ice cream.
I was tempted to buy one because of the hot weather.
But after seeing the price which was 3-4x more than outside prices, I gave up on that idea.
I took a drink of H20 instead, purchased at the entrance.

Then we reached the elephant enclosure.
There was a show or something but we did not sat down and watch.
We just took some photo and continued our way.
Our aim was the animal show amphitheater.
Hopefully we can reach early and get some seats.

Finally we reached the amphitheater.
Wah... it is very crowded.
There were no place for us to stand.
Mummy and JR managed to squeeze in and sat at the front area.
Then it was feeding time for JR and I make milk.
What was worse for me was to squeeze in the wall of people just to get to JR and pass in the milk bottle.
But I didnt managed to stay inside as the security guard didn't allow me to.
I had to stand outside till the show end.
Then Mummy called me and I had to squeeze in between the crowd to fetch them.
Some Hokkien speaking uncle was unhappy that I shoved my way in.
I replied to him I had to fetch my son.
Well if I never push, "The hen also shrill already" as a saying by the Hokkiens implying it was too late.
Well mummy and JR manage to get out of the crowd before I reach them. (wasted effort)

Anyway the show was quite funny.
There was a incident that the compere ask 3 kids to feed the sea lion star Nigel with fish.
Then when it was the turn of the last kid, the compere keep saying that the fish was for him.
Well the kid actually believed her and bit the fish!
Then the compere panicked and quickly explained (to the kid's mum) that the fish was very fresh and no harm was done.
She never thought the kid would take her word for real...

After the show, we took a quick walk around and find that the sky was getting dark.
So we decided to go home.
Well the rest of the animal will have to wait for the next visit.
All in all, it was a enjoyable trip.
Luckily we left early, it rained very heavily after that.
I guess we (the adults) enjoyed the trip more than JR.
One tip for parents is to bring the battery operated fan for the baby.
It was very handy.

Supermart and the Club

JR is getting cuter by the day.
After so long and much practice he can crawl with relative ease and over obstacles like the bolster.
Unfortunately because of that he had a fall from the bed...
Luckily he turn out ok.

Recently because of the cold weather JR caught a cold and we brought him to see TCM instead.
After much Chinese medication, which he did not detest (much), he is back to normal.
But we still bring him to see TCM practitioner for his sweaty problem.

Usually after the session we will bring him to visit the supemart just beside the TCM clinic.
JR loves to sit in the trolley.

Last Saturday we brought him down to our guitar club (Toa Payoh Guitar Club) for a visit.
We had meant to bring him for a vist much earlier but because of all the coughing delay we had to postpone and postpone the visit.
Well he seem to like the bongo drums.

We celebrated our 1st Chinese New Year with JR.
After month 8, he started to recognised people.
Not every one can carry him from then onwards.
He would cry when an unfamilar face carries him.
Haha its actually quite comical to see him cry...

Month 8 (The Crawl, F1 and The Reunion Lunch)

JR has been practising the art of crawling for the past month.
But without much success.
On a soft surface like bed, he can use the additional contact point (namely the head) as a fulcrum to move forward.
However, I dont think that is very possible on a hard surface...
Seems like he still need some more practice.

Well on the other hand he is learning how to walk.
We put him on a walker and he not only learns how to walk but also how to drive a F1.
(OK OK We know it's said that walker is not good for a baby but...)
Basically he treats the walker like a skateboard.
With 1 foot paddling, he would let the walker drift and use the other foor to paddle to gain speed.
What even surprising is that he knows how to do a E-brake... by putting both feet down.
Seems like we have Michael Shumachker in the making... (Just in time for the F1 season starting in SG, if not there is always the WRC instead)

We had a reunion lunch at the Carlton Hotel.
And took a number pictures for JR at there.
JR really loves to kai kai. (outing)
Every we say go kai kai he would be very excited.

Recently for unknown reasons, JR doesn't sleep well.
He will wake up in the middle of the night and cry.
We brought him to see the ped in Gleneagles.
But the ped say he is OK but gave him paracetmol to calm down.
Hmm... I thought that's for fever and headache?
Anyway we choose not to give him that medication.
Hopefully he will go back to normal.

Month 8 (The sit and the Park)

It's been 2 months since the last update, and JR is now into the 8th month.
JR has been plagued by the recurring cough and bronchitis for the past months.
The latest attack took a big toll on JR need another dose of stronger nebu treament and oral medication.

At 20 Nov we seek GP's help, and he prescribed rhinathiol(red) 1.5ml 3x daily and salbutamol 1.5ml 3x daily
2 days later, the GP prescribed nebu-treatment: Atrovent 0.25ml, Sabutamol/Ventolin 0.25ml, Saline 1.5ml, 3x daily
1 day later, we seek another pediatrician and he prescribed: pulmicort 2ml, 10 drops of berdual solution for 4 days.
Following the nebu-treatment, oral medication is to be taken: 1.5ml of Bambac 2x/day
1 week later, we went back to the ped, and he prescribe another course of the same medication for the nebu-treatment for another 3 days.
In addition, singulair tablet was prescribed. (5mg / 1/2 tablet daily)
Till date JR still has intermittent coughing, especially in colder weathers.

We just took JR for a third 6-in-1 jab due to the recurring bronchitis after delaying for 2 months or so.
Poor JR, his weight is in the 25 percentile...

That aside, we brought JR out to Sembawang Park for a walk one evening.
He didn't seem to like it though...
Hmm maybe he is too small to appreciate the good surroundings.

JR is able to sit now and still learning to crawl.
At first he is quite unstable but now he is able to sit quite steadily.
Also he is starting to make quite a number of sounds.
When he wants to sleep he will say papa and when he is grouchy and crying, he will say mama...
So much for papa and mama...

Week 26 (The recuperation)

The nebulizer treatment session was a torment for the poor JR.
Each time he sees the nebu equipment he would make noise.
After each session, he would complain and complain and wouldn't want to even look at me. (As I am the one who issue the treatment...)

After another week of nebulizer treatment, which JR abhors, we brought JR to see ped.
The pediatrician diagnose that JR has recovered.
The claimed that the lung is free of phlegm.
However, we still heard JR coughing and it doesn't sound as if the phlegm has gone.
We seek 2nd opinion from the GP nearby our house and he too says there isn't any phlegm in the lungs.
The phlegm were probably in the throat.
In a way, we were relieved but not fully convinced.

In the course we also seek some TCM treatment from Eu Yan Seng clinic.
JR did not detest TCM compared to western medication.
However, JR's body did not go well with the TCM.
The pool was watery and so we decied to stop the Chinese medication.
I believe the medication quantity is too much... But well I am not an expert on TCM.

During the course of the sickness, we stop letting JR sleep in air-con room.
But he really perspire a lot, in the end we had to wake up every hour or so to wipe his sweat and change his clothing.
It was really a tough time for us.
We bought some natural latex pillow for him too.
It is supposed to provide some air ciculation on the head and so won't sweat so much.
However the improvement seems minimal.
I think JR is big sweater :)

So to help JR recuperation we brought him to seek another TCM treatment in Bedok area.
A TCM clinic that specializes in baby tuina 推拿(Chinese massage).
Hmm... 1st time I heard of tuina for baby...
The main part they massage is the acupoints on the palm and some body acupoints.
No oral medication were given but instead a medicated pouch to covered the belly button.
The medication will be absorbed from the belly button instead.
Anyway we did the tuina session for 2 consecutive week.
So far the effect seems quite ok.
He still has some dry cough.

Week 23 (JR is sick...)

JR is down with cough for 2 weeks.
Oh my poor JR...

We went to see 2 pediatrician.
First ped prescribed JR with some cough mixture and phlegm reducing powder.
However, after 1 week of taking the medication, JR did not seem to be any better.
So we brought him to for a 2nd opinion with another pediatrician, one that specialized in asthma and respiratory.

This 2nd ped informed us that JR is down with bronchitis (inflamation of the lung).
(Acute or Chronic he did not mention though)
But he did say, if a baby is caught with 3 times of bronchitis within a year, it's probably the beginning of asthma.

After he diagnosed JR, he prescribed JR with nebulizer treatment and phlegm loosener
The mixture per treatment are:
- Ventolin .25ml
- Atrovent .25
- Saline 1.5 ml

This is to open the airway and make the phlegm more liquid so that it will be dissolved.
No antibotics is prescribed.

After 4 days of nebulizer treatment, JR's cough did not improve.
So we went back and see the 2nd ped again.
This time round he prescribed antibiotics and additional component to the nebulizer treatment.
The nebulizer treatment mixture consist of:
- Ventolin .25ml
- Atrovent .25 ml
- Saline .5 ml
- Pulmicort 1 ml

Again after a span of 3 days, there is still no improvement.
And so we went back to see the 2nd ped again.
This time round, the ped send JR for X-Ray, blood test and phlegm culture test for bacteria.
Amazingly, JR did not cry during the chest X-ray.
X-ray results are ok: lungs appears clear (no overt consolidation or pleural effusion seen) and heart size within normal limits.

For the blood test, the lab technician is very lousy.
I can't believe they actually use the finger squeezing method to get the blood drop specimen when other labs are using capillary tube to extract the blood (much faster and painless method).
So after they take the 2nd sample JR became very impatient.
An adult would be impatient not to mention JR is just 5+ month old baby.
The lab at Mt. Alvernia should improve their service...

For the blood test results, the White blood cell count is low.
Also the Neutrophil count is lower than normal.
This probably indicates some form of viral infection.
If it is viral infection it will go away without treatment
If it is bacteria then have to determine what type of bacteria before they prescribe the correct antibiotics.

Throat swap culture test results are out.
The test is negative for bacteria.
This means that it is probably viral infection.
For viral infection it would then have to depend on JR's self-immunity.

Week 20 (The Flip Part 2, The Tub and the Cockpit)

We started mixing pure brown rice powder to JR's milk.
His intake rose to 6 oz suddenly.
We guess this could be the milk intake spurt that others were to talking about.
JR seems to like the smell of the brown rice powder.

Finally after some more practice, JR master the flip.
He could easily flip over now.
Now its our time to have headache.
JR do this even when he at his sleeping time...
So we had to resort to use pillow to block his flipping art attempt while he is supposed to be sleeping at night.

We tried to build up his nightly routine and incorporate some study time for him.
However he does not really seem to be very keen in studying... oh dear...

JR's temper is getting worse.
After the milk spurt, his milk intake reduced, to our dismay.
When taking his milk, JR choses whom he liked to feed him.
All of us don't fit in his good book, except my Father-in-law.
He is the only person that can make JR finish the whole bottle of milk.
Wondered what is his secret...

Week 18 (The Flip and Dr Brown)

We brought JR for a hair shave at the local salon.
Damn, the salonist was quite rough.
I think I can do a better job.
After all I did "work" on my platoon mate during my army days and my brother after that.
I am quite apt at that actually.
Strangely JR was quite tolerant of the rough treatment that he received...
He did not cry or grimace at all.
If that's bad, what is worse is after the haircut.
We wanted some powder to brush away the cut hair on his head.
The salonist actually pour powder into his ears.
Wah... who on earth would do that?
This is the last time I ever visit them again.
From then on, I am appointed the official JR hair salonist. (Ahem. Applause anyone?)

JR has been practising the acrobatic move "The Flip" since week 16 and has shown remarking progress.
Well if he only know how to deal with his hand he would have succeeded.
With some external aid, he is able to flip. :)

We bought some Dr Brown's bottle, which is very expensive.
3 for SGD 50 (8 oz) from the First Few Years shop @ Paragon #05-42
It has some patented design which will eliminate bubbles from the bottle.
Basically the bottle's design is such that it has tube which will bring the air from the tit to the other end of the bottle.
Quite an ingenius design I would say...
The bottle does reduce bubbles forming in the bottle, however I think air intake is when JR is sucking the milk.
After each feeding session, there is still burbing work to be done ...

Verdict:
Eliminate bubbles: yes
Eliminate air intake inside baby: no
Reduce air intake by baby: unknown

Week 17 (Play)

We bought JR some toys for him to play with.
Until recently then we brought it out for him to play.
Well he did try to grab the items hanging in front of him.
The main purpose of those hanging toys is for JR to judge the distance: hand-eye coordination.
One thing I like about those toys was the colourful nature.
It did really brighten the day.

Took JR to pediatrician on today.
His weight is 6.6 k.g.
Doctor says his weight is normal.
Mummy ask doc for advice on a few things:

1) His nose seems to be blocked in the aircon room
It's normal as the air con room's air is generally drier

2) The eyes went red (the reason why JR was brought to for a visit)
Baby's tear duct is quite delicate so sometimes the redness is due to the blockage of the tear duct.
What we could do was to massage the tear duct between the 2 eyes and above the nose area.
This would help to clear the blockage.
If the redness continued into the day then it will be a cause for worry as likely it is an infection.

3) JR got a lot of wind in the stomach how to cope with it?
Doc says its normal.

4) Dr Brown's feeding bottle. How good is it?
Good but expensive...
Actually Avent bottle is already quite good.

5) JR drinks about 3-4 oz per feed.
Doc say, "It's normal." (No prize for guessing the correct answer)

6)Mummy ask if her sensitive would be inherited by JR
Doc says it is too early to tell.
Even if it does affect JR, the most what he could do is to prescribe is some nose drop for JR.
However the nose drop can only be used for 3-4 days, a temporary measure.

Week 15 (Routine)

Its almost going to 4 months.
Time really flies.

We went thru' the 2nd injection at 3rd month.
This time round still we got quite a bit of trouble trying to cope with his fever.
Nonetheless we did not let his fever developed.

Well I wouldn't say JR's milk intake has gone back to normal, but at least he is taking milk at certain times.
Other times when he choked on the milk (drinking too fast) he would get angry and stop wanting to drink.
He'd rather suck on his finger...

Mummy is planning a night routine for JR.
She read from somewhere that we need to consistently repeat a set of activities at night for JR so that he can make it a habit.
So far its working quite OK.
He usually will only make need one night feed around 5-6 a.m.

Week 12 (Sleep pattern / Nursery Rhymes)

Well Baby JR's feeding seems to go back to normal usually about 3.5 oz.
We still got to monitor his progress...

However his sleep pattern is causing some worry in us.
JR would sleep at 10 and woke up 12 then remain very alert till 3 a.m.
Poor mummy, she would stay with JR till 3 a.m. sometimes 4 or 5 a.m.
I would wake up about 6 a.m. and see if baby need any feeding.
This is causing stress to both of us and definitely not a good sign.
Well clever mummy borrowed some books on baby sleep.
We are going to undo his bad sleeping pattern; the book says it takes about a week to undo all the bad habits.
So when successfully undo the bad habits we will post more info on how we did it.

I wasn't good at remember nusery rhymes unlike my wife who can memorise tons of them and recite without any error.
Well I soon discover my talent for creating and improvising song or nusery rhymes for the baby to listen.
He seems to like it.

Week 11 (Milk Amount / Poo Stress)

The much awaited update at 11 weeks.
Have been busy trying to cope with baby JR.
Recently we had problem trying to feed him as JR doesnt seem wanting to drink milk.
Each feed (at intervals of 3hours) he only finished about 1 to 1.5 oz... which was less than what he used to consume 3.5 oz...
We really wonder what happened?
Recently luckily JR managed to pick up back to 3.5 oz.
His weight measured today is 5.7kg a healthy weight.

Another prpblem we encounter is that JR doesnt want to poo...
Try all sorts of methods to make him poo, like adding sugar to his milk;
Rubbing some soap at his ass...
In the end usually after 3 days he will poo once after much coaxing.
We suspect that he doesnt want to drink milk is because his stomach is full of shit...

One of the thing I love to play with Baby JR is teaching how to speak.
His 1st vocabulary is "AngGoo" which I don't know what it meant..
2nd word in his vocab is "Cool..."
3rd word which I tried to teach him is "OK" and he imitates the sound really well.
Next time I try to record it and upload here :)

Full Month (Immunisation / Night Feed)

Baby JingRong's (JR) big day finally approached; his full month.
According to Chinese customs, full month is 30 days instead of 31 days.
Well the full month also means our confinement lady's (Jin Jie) job is accomplished... more work for me and my wife.
Hopefully we have learn the ropes of taking care of the baby.
During the period we video how Jin Jie bathe JR, change his nappy etc.
Well it seems simple enought but unless you have experienced it first hand it is not that easy as it seems.
Often we have to refer back to the video to recall how the Jin Jie position the baby at various stage of the bathing procedure...
One important point to note when bathing baby, is to keep talking to the baby while you bathe him to allay his fears.
At some moment I was so engrossed in reproducing the steps that I forgot to talk to him until my wife reminded me to talk to baby JR.

Next to worry was the immunisation procedure.
I founded out the prices of the various vacination charges and the more importantly the schedule of the immunication.
Baby JR's Hep B 2nd dose was due on 12 Jun but after some online research and asking around our more experienced colleague we decided to go for the 6 in 1 (hexa) vacination.
The schedule for hexa vaccination is:
at 1.5, 3rd, 5th month or 2nd 4th and 6th month

After Jin Jie left we had hard time coping with the baby especially the night feeding.
My wife and I had to wake up in the middle of the night to feed him.
I had thought that I could not do that because by nature I need quite abit of sleep and a heavy sleeper...
However, during the night I managed to be startled awake by Baby JR's hunger cries.
Well after numerous attempt of making the formula milk, I manage to make it quite fast.
The only problem was to get Baby JR to be awake enough to finish the bottle.
Till today we had quite a bit of problem as Baby JR always fell asleep towards the end of the feeding time...

Day 24 (Porto Bed)

JingRong was getting more active.
So so he demanded our attention more.
Funny though he seldom cry except for food he does make a lot of noise when he is sleeping in the REM stage (or dreaming in short).
I think I am going to be panda soon...

We bought a new portable bed for the baby.
It was kind of too high and so I modified the spring abit to make it more horizontal.
We are getting used to having the confinement lady around doing most of the job for us.
I wonder what will happened after the first month...
Ah well lets view some photos instead leave the thinking after the month...
